2012 has been a riveting year for Poetic Lace with his debut album, When Silence Falls, personal hardships, Kaiyzernomics -The Final Curtain Call project and a radio host role on ‘The Covenant Café. Mon’arq was able to catch Poetic Lace amidst his ever hectic schedule.
Commencing our chat we go straight to Poetic Lace’s debut album When Silence Falls. Can you tell us about the albums journey and what it means to you? Poetic Lace laughs leading into his response. “The album’s journey was a ‘character building path’. It took ‘faith, sacrifices, blood, sweat, tears and a lot of prayer’ to complete the album and get to where I am today. I had to have ‘faith’, believing that God told me to do it regardless of all the opposition and lack of resources.
I made so many sacrifices! Every penny God gave me went into this project. There were days I did not eat, sleep, nor bathe. From helping people to working on the album, my personal life was practically nonexistent. Also, studying God’s word and being ‘his’ servant caused me to put my ‘blood, sweat, tears and prayers’ in it! This project is about keeping it real and being transparent. The title speaks for itself. What happens When Silence Falls? The truth gets told. What happens When Silence Falls? The truth gets heard. This project to me is more than just an album. It’s a new beginning! It’s the foundation to a positive life changing movement.”
Listening to Poetic Lace’s profoundly uplifting lyrical content; it’s evident, drawing inspiration from his life experience and the word of God. Poetic Lace continues. “The environment I grew up in, the trials and tribulations I’ve been through; everything God has and hasn’t done for me plays a major role in what comes out of my pen, on my paper, through my eyes and out of my mouth. To see so much pain and to know that people don’t know there’s a God who can heal us inspires me to ‘at least’ lead them in the right direction lyrically!”
How long did When Silence Falls take to write and record? “When Silence Falls took one month to record. I can’t put a time frame on how long it took to write because some of the songs were inspired from poems I wrote years ago.”
